Preface – Anaphora
Dominus vobiscum.
The Lord be with you.
Et cum spiritu tuo.
And with your spirit.
Sursum corda.
Lift up your hearts!
Habemus ad Dominum.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Gratias agamus Domino, Deo nostro.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
Dignum et iustum est.
It is right and just.
It is truly right and just, our duty and salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks, Father most holy, through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ,
Verbum tuum per quod cuncta fecisti:
your Word through whom you made all things,
quem misisti nobis salvatorem et redemptorem,
whom you sent as our Savior and Redeemer,
incarnate by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin.
Fulfilling your will and gaining for you a holy people,
extendit manus cum pateretur,
he stretched out his hands as he endured his Passion,
ut mortem solveret et resurrectionem manifestaret.
so as to break the bonds of death and manifest the resurrection.
Et ideo cum angelis et omnibus sanctis
And so, with the Angels and all the Saints
gloriam tuam praedicamus, una voce dicentes:
we declare your glory, as with one voice we acclaim:
Sanctus
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus
Holy, Holy, Holy
Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
Lord God of hosts.
Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria tua.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in excelsis.
Hosanna in the highest.
Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in excelsis.
Hosanna in the highest.
Postsanctus
Vere sanctus es, Domine, fons omnis sanctitatis.
You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
Epiclesis
Haec ergo dona, quaesumus,
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
Spiritus tui rore sanctifica,
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us the Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Institution Narrative
Qui cum passioni voluntarie traderetur,
At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his Passion,
accepit panem et gratias agens fregit,
he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,
deditque discipulis suis, dicens:
and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Accipite et manducate ex hoc omnes:
Take this, all of you, and eat of it:
Hoc est enim corpus meum,
For this is my Body
quod pro vobis tradetur.
which will be given up for you.
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and,
iterum gratias agens dedit discipulis suis, dicens:
once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying:
Accipite et bibite ex eo omnes:
Take this, all of you, and drink from it:
Hic est enim calix sanguinis mei novi et aeterni testamenti,
For this is the chalice of my Blood, the Blood of the New and Eternal Covenant,
qui pro vobis et pro multis effundetur
which will be poured out for you and for many
in remissionem peccatorum.
for the forgiveness of sins.
Hoc facite in meam commemorationem.
Do this in memory of me.
Mysterium fidei.
The mystery of faith:
Mortem tuam annuntiamus, Domine,
We proclaim your Death, O Lord,
et tuam resurrectionem confitemur,
and profess your Resurrection
dones venias
until you come again.
Anamnesis & Epiclesis of the Communion
Memores igitur mortis et resurrectionis eius,
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
tibi, Domine, panem vitae et calicem salutis offerimus,
we offer you, Lord, the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
gratias agentes quia nos dignos habuisti astare coram te et tibi ministrare.
giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
Et supplices deprecamur
Humbly we pray that,
ut corporis et sanguinis Christi participes
partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
a Spiritu Sansto congregemur in unum.
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Intercessions
Recordare, Domine, ecclesiae tuae toto orbe diffusae,
Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world,
ut eam in caritate perficias
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
una cum papa nostro Francisco
together with Francis our Pope
et episcopo nostro Francisco
and Francis our Bishop
et universo clero.
and all the clergy.
Memento etiam fratrum nostrorum,
Remember also our brothers and sisters
qui in spe resurrectionis dormierunt,
who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection
omniumque in tua miseratione defunctorum,
and all who have died in your mercy:
et eos in lumen vultus tui admitte.
welcome them into the light of your face.
Omnium nostrum, quaesumus, miserere,
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
ut cum beata Dei genetrice virgine Maria,
that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
beatis apostolis
with the blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Doxology & Great Amen
Through him, and with him, and in him,
est tibi Deo Patri omnipotenti,
O God, almighty Father,
in unitate Spiritus Sancti,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Amen.
